Even now two years later, less than one-half of the city’s population has returned.
HELP RE-BUILD NEW ORLEANS “GREEN” AND SUSTAINABLE
ONE-OF-A-KIND BALDWIN “GREEN” PIANO TO BE AUCTIONED
THE GLOBAL GREEN USA PIANO
Donated by Baldwin this one-of-a-kind celebrity-autographed baby grand “green” piano was made from wood legally harvested from areas that pose no threat to conservation-valued forests or violate any civil rights. The piano will be auctioned to the highest bidder with proceeds from the sale benefiting Global Green USA’s rebuild New Orleans “Green” project at Holy Cross in the Ninth Ward.
ActiveMusic arranged to have the piano displayed at the International House Hotel in New Orleans during the 2007 New Orleans Jazz Festival. Art Neville, in the neighborhood, made a special appearance, serenading the crowd and played the piano. Two weeks later, Fats stopped by, and surprised everyone with a special performance including “Ain’t That a Shame” to our delight and then graciously autographed the piano. Fats, is currently living nearby while re-building his home in the Ninth Ward.
In March, ActiveMusic partnered with SRI Jazz and arranged for the piano to travel to Los Angeles to participate in the recording of Ray Brown Jr.’s new album “Family and Friends” featuring duets with; Dr. John, Dr. Lonnie Smith, James “Fathead” Newman, Sally Kellerman, Sophie B. Hawkins, Melba Moore, James Moody, Freda Payne, Dionne Warwick, Paul Williams, Terry Gibbs and others who support the re-building of New Orleans “Green”.
Mostly recently, the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village hosted a private reception to announce the arrival of the piano at their hotel. Ray Brown Jr., Sophie B Hawkins, Freda Payne, Terry Gibb and James Moody attended and Ray serenaded the guests singing songs from his new album.
Our goal is to continue to shine a light on the plight of the victims of post Hurricane Katrina who two years later have neither received any help whatsoever, or are still waiting to be helped or are now new victims of “post- Katrina” still living in mobile trailers exposing them to carcinogens and other dangers.
Please support our endeavors to draw attention to the re-build efforts taking place in New Orleans and the urgent need to pursue environmentally sound green technologies and sustainable lifestyles.
